Balance in Life & Massage
So often in life we feel a sense of disharmony. No one person is the same as the next, nor should they be. But, we all long for the peace that balance brings.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine we learn that Yin and Yang are complimentary forces rather than opposing. Yin and Yang encompass everything around us; hot and cold, light and dark, low and high, male and female. Though seemingly opposite in our eyes, one simply cannot exist without the other. they interact to form a whole greater than either part individually.
For example, we all need sleep to be able to function at our highest potential, but if we get too much sleep we are just as useless the following day! Just as we need to sleep, it is vital that we spend time awake as well; to walk, use our muscles, breathe in nature, to experience the world around us.
This concept is also applied in a well-rounded exercise plan; it is just as important to strengthen the quads as well as the opposing, yet complimentary hamstring group. If one is stronger than the other, the balance is gone and the body will not and cannot function efficiently. In massage, we generally work the same way. Our goal is to create balance between the antagonist muscle groups.
When you create balance in any area of your life, it becomes easier to bring balance to many other areas. Remember, all work and no play make Johnny a very dull boy, but all play wastes away the day! So keep up the good hard work, then balance it with a MASSAGE!
